This TED Talk conference is a welcome way of opening up discussions on sexual violence with an audience mostly composed of men. In this video, protagonists Thordis and Tom use their stories to try and make a difference in the fight against this sort of violence. While Thordis and Tom were in a relationship, aged 16 and 18 respectively, Tom sexually assaulted Thordis. Throughout their interwoven accounts of the event and the years that followed, we learn about their emotional journeys and questions. Moreover, this conference provides insights into the protective strategies they adopted during and after sexual assaults.  This story is accompanied by a plea for men to be more involved in conversations about sexual violence.

This tool will enable you to quickly and effectively communicate the multiple impacts of sexual violence. This poster lists the various consequences that can be experienced by a survivor of sexual violence. It highlights the different spheres of overall health, such as mental, physical, cognitive, emotional, sexual and relational health. We recommend this tool to intervention workers who wish to access to real-life examples of the impact of violence on victims. We also think it is a good idea to include it in your interventions, since the repercussions of sexual violence vary from one person to the next, evolve and can last for a long time. You could hang it in your workplace to make this information readily available to everyone.

The YWCA have developed a useful tool that you can use to better assess your efforts to combat sexual violence. In addition to examples of best practices, they also prepared two documents to help you better understand the legal requirements that apply to higher-education institutions.

This animated video that encourages reflection through humor and education. Using a skunk attack as a metaphor for sexual assault, the video illustrates how society often blames the victim, like the main character, Sarah, regardless of how absurd it may be. Such misconceptions are harmful for victims who choose to disclose their cases of sexual violence.

In December 2017, Quebec passed Act P-22.1, An Act to prevent and fight sexual violence in higher education institutions. To help higher education meet the requirements of this law, and implement a sexual violence policy if they did not already have one, the Ministry created and published three resources (only available in French): le Rapport de mise en œuvre de la Loi, le Guide d’accompagnement and le Bilan de la reddition de compte de l’exercice 2021 – 2022.
